  5. Cap de Ses Salines, sketchbook Mallorca 2010, roller ball pen

Roller ball pens: Advantages: Line does not interrupt, very »fast«, dries quickly.
Disadvantages: Always the same broad stroke.
My experience: the havier the better!

  6. There is no serious alternative for drawing directly in nature.
To draw a tree in front of a computer is rather strange - but it's fun!

  8. Some months ago a fellow artist from the United States made me aware of water soluble graphite of a Portuguese manufacturer. If you have not used this material yet I think it is worth trying.

This is an example made by Pat Reese –  an artist from the United States using the ArtGraf Material. In a blog she wrote about this technique: »I am really enjoying this little tub of graphite. It doesn't erase like other graphite though but you can’t beat the ease of use. I just wet the cake of graphite with the little spray bottle [...], spray some water in the lid and the painting just happens«.

I asked the company Viarco if I can post their photos. They sent a very nice and informative answer: »Dear Albrecht Rissler, We confirm the reception of your e-mail and we would like to inform that we thank you very much your post. For your information Viarco might be the smallest pencil factory in the world and even that we have an history for more than 100 years we are starting a new project with a very young team. At this moment we have 500 square meters of the factory transformed in free ateliers for young artist and we open 2 days ago a project of industrial tourism based on the industrial archeology assets that we have here. All the new products that we are developed in strict co-operation with artist, designers and a new generation of creative people in Portugal so all the help that we can get to promote them are welcome. If one of these days you would like to come here and visit us we would be very pleased to receive you. Thank you once again. Best regards José Vieira«

  9. When a drawing or a painting is finished? This question arises every artist. The answer is not simple. Sometimes when I'm not sure I'm just continue. Up to the moment when the work is really destroyed. For the drawing, it is not nice, but for the next work I've done a valuable experience. Next time I do a little better to stop at the right moment.

  10. The first time I visited this great eucalyptus tree in 1988. He was one of the largest trees on the island of Lanzarote. Once, its branches lay on the side surfaces of a small valley on the road within the famous wine region "La Geria". The house on the street became famous by a French-Italian film with Rita Hayworth "La route de Salina" (English: Road to Salina)
Today the valley is widely broadened for a large winery. In 2005 I saw the tree for the last time. Its condition wasn't so good. I hope that the tree has now recovered. In Google Earth you can find the bodega and the tree....
